Mother's Day Walkathon on 15th May 2010
Early on the morning of May 15, a crowd of women turned up at the Vista playground. They were there for the Mother’s Day Walkathon, held in honor of the hardworking mothers at Puteri 12. This activity was held to encourage homemakers to come out and get to know their fellow neighbors. As the sky began to brighten, more people came to register themselves, readily clad in their sports attire.
The participants were separated into two categories, Group A (age 50 years and above) and Group B (below 50 years old). There were 42 participants in Group A, significantly more compared to Group B, which only had about half that number.
The contestants were briefed about the route before the walkathon and soon, they were off!
Group A started first, followed by Group B a little later. The walkathon route started and ended at the playground.
When everyone had finished the race, refreshments of drinks, nasi lemak and beehoon were ready for them to tuck into.
Prize giving was next. Our RA chairwoman, Betty Yap and the Walkathon organizing chairwoman, Madam Tan Sook Ha gave out the prizes (1st, 2nd, 3rd and two consolation prizes for each category) to the winners, who posed happily for the photographer.
List of Winners: -
For Group A (50 years old & above): -
1st - Tham Wai Kuen
2nd - Molly Neoh
3rd - Alice Wong
Consolations - Jenny Yam
Consolations - Chong Chin Nyek
For Group B (below 50 years old): -
1st - Carol Lee
2nd - Mandy Le
3rd - Jazreel Chia
Consolations - Lee Yoke Lan
Consolations - Mrs Tham
Overall, the Walkathon was a success and received many positive feedbacks. We hope to be able to organize more similar activities in future to encourage neighborliness and build stronger bonds among residents.
